Travel with a Purpose

The Travel with a Purpose Grant Competition will award up to three teams or individuals $3,000 in funds to use for travel as part of a partnership with a community, industry partner, or lab to enhance existing collaborations or start new partnerships. They will also receive support from ORAP, IREO, and ONLP to initiate contact and/or develop strategic, industrial, community, or lab partnerships.

  • Finalists selected from the pool of applicants will give 3–5 minute pitches to a panel of reviewers during Research Week (October 16–20). The panel will select the awardees from the finalists based on the strength of their proposals and pitches.
  • Deadline: 5:00 pm, September 25, 2023

  • This competition is open to full-time WSU faculty in any track systemwide.
  • PI must work with their finance manager to have the funds transferred from the Office of Research by December 1, 2023.

In the budget section of your application, list the proposed use(s) of the award with costs for each item, breaking down costs by category (transportation, lodging, meals, etc.). Estimated costs are acceptable where exact costs are unavailable. Provide brief justifications for each item in reference to your Project Description.

During Research Week 2023, the lead PI or the team will give a 3–5 minute pitch to a general WSU audience and the review panel. The pitch should convey the core ideas, purpose, and expected benefits of the proposed activity to a non-specialist, multi-disciplinary audience. A short question and answer period will follow. The review panel will select the most promising and compelling project to receive the award/s.

Note: Based on number of written applications received, applicants may be shortlisted for the public presentation. The Office of Research will contact applicants with further instructions after October 2.

The successful projects will be announced on October 19 and recognized during the Research Week awards ceremony on October 20.
