Undergraduate Research Grant Application

The written application must include the following:

  • Applicant Student’s name and email address
  • Faculty Mentor’s name and email address
  • Degree program
  • Project title
  • In lay language, and in no more than 1000 words, discuss the proposed project.
  • Attach a short letter from faculty mentor committing to help the student in the proposed project.

Students are recommended to use the following outline in their application:

  • Introduction/Background: Describe the problem or gap you are attempting to address. Communicate what has been done about this issue to date and what is missing or what is the next logical step to address this issue. Emphasize why it is important to fill this gap and how thigs would be different if this problem were solved. Explain why you or your group should be selected to perform this research and not another team.
  • Plan and Approach: Explain your plan and your methodology. If an experimental setup has been or must be designed, describe the design. Be as specific as you can about your methods for collecting and analyzing data.
